LADY GAGA / JOANNE

If you know me, you know that I love Lady Gaga… On October 21st, the world was given a gift, greater than the invention of sliced bread, Joanne. Lady Gaga is the last person you’d want to go down the pared-down, real-me, let’s-get-a-bit-country. After all, the abstract is where Lady Gaga’s from.

She is one of my biggest inspirations, and I’m so thankful for her artistry that never fails to heal and bring the world together.

joannejoannewithmeWith big songs and big production, Joanne certainly sounds like the business. Yet while its modernity is expressed by mixing and matching genres or adding digital zing to familiar tropes, for all its bravura exuberance and pop slickness it is old fashioned to its core. When you go to extremes of image, decking yourself out in meat dresses and lobster hats, perhaps the boldest makeover left is to actually take off the mask and appear as yourself. Lady Gaga, it turns out, is an old-fashioned rock and roll showgirl at heart.

So get out there, put on your pink “Joanne” hats on, and get to listening to Gaga’s new album!

Thank you LG,

xoxo, Joanne / Mariano

The New Museum

IMG_1800

Hello there! If you’re someone like me, who loves exploring New York, and discovering new places (and love art), you definitely have to check out this museum. Ironically it’s called the New Museum and is located on 235 Bowery in East Village. The entrance fee is $10 (for students), don’t forget your student ID.

The museum is mostly set up of contemporary art, which I’m not really a fan of, but reading about the background and how the art pieces came to be, was very interesting and gave them a new meaning. In total there are 7 floors and on the 7th floor you have a balcony, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Manhattan. Personally my favorite floor was the 3rd floor (I believe), it was covered in frames with pictures of random people holding teddy bears, it sounds weird but visually it looked very cool.

Let me know if you went to see it and what you thought!

Summer classes’ Do’s and Dont’s

Almost every semester now I have taken a summer class, although they have only been online they really instilled a good work ethic in me. My personal advice is if you can take summer classes’ online do it, best decision I made. If you want to travel and work you have more flexibility to do so. This summer session I am taking two classes, one online and one at the college. So here are a few things I do to prepare myself:

Do:

  1. Get an agenda, keep everything super organized.
  2. Get to know your professor, summer classes go quickly and are a full class packed into a few weeks, so you never know when you will need help.
  3. Only take 1-2 classes per summer session, it is a lot to take in.
  4. Check when your class starts, usually it’s only a short period of time after your semester ends.
  5. Register to classes early, summer gets full quickly.

Don’t:

  1. Don’t wait till the last minute.
  2. Don’t try to write your papers or assignments at the beach, bringing your laptop or wok isn’t always the smartest idea.
  3. Take a bunch of classes at different colleges to try and get the most of your summer classes, trust me stick to one to two.
  4. Don’t wait till your semester ends to register, most people do this in case they fail they have a backup but always register as soon as you are allowed.

Do you have any tips for summer classes? Do you prefer online or in class? Let me know!

Discover a New City: Boston

Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a great long weekend and Valentine’s day. I recently took one of my first trips of 2016, it was a 3 day trip to Boston. It was a last minute decision but I am officially hooked, I think I need to move there! What is great about the area is that you can take a train there from NYC, drive there its a 3-4 hour drive depending on where in New Jersey or New York you are.Bridge

For my trip I drove it took 4 hours and 40 minutes from central jersey. It was an awesome road trip there was so much to see on the way as well as when we were there.SignThe weekend was filled with so many fun sites and shopping, and did I forget to mention… the best lobster I have ever eaten! We arrived on Friday night at the West end of Boston, at the Liberty hotel. untitled.png12I have to say this was the coolest place I have ever stayed at. It used to be one of the first prisons in Boston, that was recently renovated into a hotel. The picture above is the lobby, you can see where they changed cell blocks into sitting/bar areas.  The light fixtures are original and refurbished to working chandlers, as well as the original brick and beautiful window you see above. It was the most beautifully designed places I’ve ever been in.

After we settled in on Friday and explored the huge hotel we walked around Quincy market, which is an indoor and outdoor shopping area. The space was filled with beautiful statues and shopping and more lobster (haha). I don’t think I have ever been so full, and gained about 5 pounds just from the 2 days. We mostly tried to stay inside it was only 7 degrees and within minutes I got frostbite on my face.

Besides that, All of the streets were cobblestone , the history, the architecture all blew me away. Although I was surprised at how small Boston actually was, and how quite. Coming from New York city being our closest city were used to everything very bright and loud and millions of people. But when we got to Boston on Friday we went to eat at 8:30-9 and no one was on the street it was so quite. It was definitely a different atmosphere but that’s really what made me love it more. It has the city feel I was missing from back home but its still pretty suburban. I really didn’t want to come home and come back to my desk but I will definitely be visiting again soon when its not so cold!

Have you been to Boston? Any suggestions for my next trip?

Single New York Valentines day!

Chocolate_0Valentine’s day is approaching us, for some of us its a dreaded day, others its the one chance to find there love or to express there love to someone.  So I have a couple suggestions that I came across for singles this year in NYC, because I know how hard it can be to find the best thing to do in such a big city!

  1. Katch Astoria was voted one of the “Best singles spots” in queens. They are hosting a “Nuts and bolts” Valentine’s Day singles party for those trying to meet someone. Everyone will receive half of two-piece nuts and bolts set upon entry and will be challenged to find its match to win a special prize!
  2. For those of you who are trying to just forget completely that Valentine’s Day exists, which I know there are a lot of you because my friends are most of them. However, there is a sweet celebration all month at the City Bakery Hot Chocolate Festival. 3W 18th st, Flatiron
  3. Another way to meet someone is going to the Valentine’s Day salsa Class at Alvin Ailey Dance in Midtown where couples will be encouraged to rotate and try new partners!
  4. Lastly, for those who are just not about Valentine’s Day at all because we all have that one person that made us not like it anymore… There is the “Rejection Show: Valentine’s Day Heart break Haven”. Which is a comedy show at 8pm on the 14th at 14th 622 Degraw st in Gowanus.

Enjoy your day! Id love to hear what you plan on doing!
