How To: Spend Time Alone

As I get further into the semester, I begin to find that I have less and less down time. So when I do get time alone finally I tend not to enjoy it as much as when I am with others. It’s not an ideal reaction but it is truly a normal one.

One thing that has really helped me ease into alone time has been hobbies, the less time I spent with all my friends and whoever else the more hobbies I discovered I had. Use the silence to read, paint, knit, draw, whatever interests you. Recently I learned how to cook by just getting some random recipes’ online. Next, while you are doing these things do not check your phone. Checking it defeats the purpose of alone time overall. Everyone tends to get FOMO aka, Fear of missing out.

Also spending time alone doesn’t mean you need to spend time locked in your room or apartment, go for a walk, treat yourself to coffee, or go shopping alone. This still counts as alone time even if you aren’t really alone. I find that my taste in things tends to change with the people I am with so if I am alone I find more things that I love that maybe I wouldn’t think of before.

Lastly, enjoy the ultimate relaxation, when you’re not running around or doing things for others its quite relaxing. My favorite moments are once a week when I climb into a bubble bath with a book and some candles. So my suggestion is cancel your plans, put down the social media and texts and just hang out with yourself.

Life Hack: How to be an Optimist

As we begin to get further into school it can be difficult to be optimistic when you are stressed out. But finding ways to stay optimistic about the future and your life will allow you to be positive even when your life isn’t exactly all rainbows.

First, It is a very important goal to set and accomplish larger goals , as well as follow through. We need to make ourselves believe we are capable of doing anything. You are what you reach for and it tends to become easy to forget why you came this far sometimes with a negative mindset.

Next, Remove any negative things in your present life. I cant tell you how amazing it feels when you do. Negative energy feeds off negative experiences so when you remove these things it opens many doors for change. Also, take responsibility for your own actions. While it tends to seem easy to blame others , it wont allow you to grow and feel good about yourself. The most successful people don’t blame anymore, not even themselves. They evaluate the situation and think of what they could do differently. We can use our set backs as a learning process for the future to keep improving.

Work in a positive environment. How can you change your outlook on life if you surround yourself with negative people who don’t care about their future ?Positivity can be contagious and once you inspire yourself you can inspire others as well. So being in the right environment is key to any amount of change.

Lastly, take baby steps, none of this will happen over night. It’s easy to be overwhelmed when you think about everything you want to accomplish. Take small easy steps to frequent success , this will keep you motivated and moving forward.

Stay Positive!

First last day

So how was your first week everyone?

It has been quite a while since I have been at FIT on campus, it was a great feeling to be back. I really missed New York , the lights, the sounds, the people, all of it. This semester is a weird one for me because mostly everyone I know has graduated so there is not many faces I know around campus. Walking towards FIT for the first time in almost a year gave me goose bumps. I remember like it was yesterday how scared I was walking up to campus for the first time. I was wondering if I was gonna make friends, if I was going to do well in college, what would happen next. Then before I knew it , I’m standing here three years later wondering where my life is going to take me next. Wednesday is my only day in the city I have French conversation till 12:00 , and then I have off from work the rest of the day . For French I have this great new teacher , I can already tell I am going to learn a lot. My online classes this semester as very active , posting more then once a week which is getting a little difficult with my starting of a new job.

But I also found out what my travel assignments are for my first few weeks with my new job! I am going to Copenhagen, Denmark and Vegas! So I am going to be away for two weeks but ill be posting tons of pictures and experiences of my first time out of the country! This is a very exciting semester for me , I am starting a new portion of my life and ending one all at the same time.

How was your first week?

How to survive your first day

Starting college is a nerve racking experience. Most people find the first day to be filled with anxiety because they don’t know anyone and there is so much going on, but I promise you will make it through!

The first thing you should do before your classes start is explore campus! Make sure you know where your classes are , where the bathrooms, cafeteria, computer labs, and extra help are located. Just walk around take it all in and get ready to be an official college student.

Next, make friends in your classes! Especially your liberals , they are mixed with tons of different people of all different majors, and grade levels. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone random, trust me they want to make friends just as badly as you do. But if you don’t make any friends right away don’t worry there is plenty of time to join a club, get involved, or introduce yourself to someone out and about other then in class.

One thing that is a must let your parents fuss over you. I know your a college student now but your a college student at FIT and your parents are so beyond proud so embrace It and thank them for encouraging you so much. You will be thankful by your senior year I promise!

Another is pack head phones and a snack for your first day. It is definitely overwhelming at first and you need some down time between classes or even just walking to class to listen to some music or watch a quick episode of something on Netflix. Give yourself a chance to relax and unwind, plus who doesn’t like snacks. Most people think my bag is filled with books, but they thought wrong I have snacks on snacks (haha).

Lastly, wear something your comfortable in. I made the mistake of wearing heels my first day freshman year and my feet were killing me by my second class and I had to get up and introduce myself. I must have looked ridiculous wobbling up to the front of the class. You want to be able to be cool, calm and collected.

Any other suggestions for the first day?

Best of Luck,

Camping or Glamping?

Hey Everyone,

So as we only have a little less then two weeks left to enjoy our summer. I took one of my last trips before its time to buckle down.

Canoe

About 10 of me and my friends went camping down the Delaware water gap. If you haven’t been I highly suggest it. We took canoes about 8 miles down the water gap and found a spot to camp out for the night. The water was as clear as can be. ( For me that’s a big deal , because I will not go in water that I cant see, Haha).

Canoeing

First thing I would suggest though if you go in the summer.. wear sunscreen. I made the mistake of not doing so and I got burnt to a crisp. Second thing bring something that you can sketch with or paint with. The natural beauty on this trip was breath taking and I wanted to capture every aspect anyway I could.

Sun RiseThis was what I woke up to, I think I sat on a log just staring at this until the sun fully immersed itself into the sky. It was breath taking, you never know what you can discover in your own backyard. So before the summer ends , get out, explore!

What have you done this summer? Any Fun plans before it ends?
