A Day in the life of an Online Student

Hello everyone!

This past semester has been truly different for me, it was the first semester I took all of my classes online and didn’t go to school physically at FIT. Everyone thinks online classes are really easy or some even think they are really hard and require a lot of work but neither of which are completely true. When you take an online class you need to devote at least 4-6 hours per module, meaning to read everything, do the discussion’s, take tests, ect.

This semester I took 8 online classes, most of which were ITM based while a few were liberals. So a typical day in my world starts a little something like this..

It’s 6:00 am I hear my alarm on my phone going off , I reach down to turn it off but suddenly realize its not near my bed because it has fallen on the floor over night, forcing me to get out of bed. I quickly get dressed and hop in my car to go 15 minutes down the street to the gym, I run and workout quickly because I have to be home by 7:15 to get ready on time. It is now 8:15 I have gotten ready for work and I am about to eat breakfast  as well as pack my lunch for the day.  Once I have driven to work it is 9:00 I finally sit at my desk for the first time today, check my emails, check in with my boss and start with my daily work. By 1:00 it is my lunch break but I don’t leave work, I sit at my desk and do my school work for an hour until I need to start other things. 5:00 rolls around and it is now time to go home, but my day doesn’t end here. I get home to eat and get changed by 6:00 its time to get back to my online classes, each night I tend to work anywhere from 3-4 hours on all my projects, tests, readings, and discussions. Then I slowly crawl into bed and fall asleep to only hear my alarm going off at 6:00 am and it is the next day.

When choosing to be an online student you choose it for many different reasons, work, children, personal matters. But your classes go on everyday if you are focusing on them or not. For me being an online student at FIT , doesn’t make me feel like your typical college student but it really works for me!

Xoxo,
