Notes From the 6 Train: Finding Peace In A Worldwind of Chaos

So let’s talk about stress. It’s one of those necessary evils that we all experience. Actually, research shows that it can be helpful, it propels us to get moving, to accomplish goals, but too much and it becomes detrimental.  With all the resources at/ near FIT, there’s absolutely no reason to be a victim of chronic stress.

The health center is well equipped to handle all of  your de-stressing needs. There is free counseling, a nutritionist ( during high stress periods people tend to the wrong food or don’t eat at all). Not to mention the masseuse who also does acupuncture. She only comes twice a week and her schedule for the entire semester fills up pretty fast, so you have to sign up early to ensure a spot. There’s also a yoga club and a plethora of other free events offered around the Chelsea area. During the summer there are free classes for yoga and fitness training in the park. I have ventured to the park for one of these free work outs. It was way more intense than I had anticipated. Since I never work out, I certainty felt healthy afterwards, even that lady knocked all the wind of me. She had us running laps around the park and jumping hurdles and other craziness. It was feel my body in motion, but it was rather embarrassing that   some of these free events.  A quick web search will prove just how easy it is to find all of these free classes.
As important as it it maintain a healthy body, it is equally as important to maintain a healthy mind and spirit. I always on the move, either on the train, or in class, or working but I try to make living a balanced life a top priority of mines. So, once a week I try to make it out to (free) meditation. There are several places where free meditation is offered as well, but the place nearest FIT is at the Chelsea Studio, located just one block over.

Stress is an inescapable part of reality, especially being a student. Trying to escape stress is not the goal, the goal is responding to it healthy manner.  There’s no reason to be stressed when there are so many (free) options at your disposal.
