Healthy Snacking for Fall Stashing

As Fall is in full force, the colder the weather gets, the more everyone eats. Fall is a perfect season for getting your diet on track, especially to get you through midterms. Here are some money-conscious healthy snacking tips, great for college students always on the go.

Snacking from Scraps

Sometimes you might have a lot of bits and bites floating around in your fridge. I usually have peppers and ends of cheese. I made a great snack by toasting a couple thin slices of laying around bread and topped them with the peppers and mozzarella. Hummus is another great snack if you have some sitting in your fridge, great with any veggie! Healthy snacking is a mindset, so get creative and feel strong!

Always Keep Snacks on Hand

Store carrots and celery sticks in water in the fridge as crunchy snacks. Keep some dips handy to liven up the vegetables. Nibble on low-calorie quick fixes to take the edge off of your hunger to prevent the temptation to overeat at dinner.

Eat a Fruit + Protein

Pairing a fruit with a protein is a hunger-fighting combination. Eating just fruit will have satisfied, but after you eat that banana, you’ll be hungry an hour later. Add a handful of peanuts to the banana, though, and you’ll go for hours on about $0.65.

Nuts for Nuts

Nuts get a bad rap because of the misconception that they are expensive and high in fat. Though they may be expensive per pound, an 1½-oz serving will fill you up, unlike three servings of chips. Remember, there are good fats and bad fats. Nuts are a source of good fat!

Notes From the 6 Train: Hedwig & The Angry Inch

You can always tell when midterms or finals have arrived because a) the blog becomes un-characteristically barren or b) the few posts are information heavy and not about fun stuff. But, now that this time of the semester is over, we will all be back! Yay!

Hedwig & the Angry Inch Belasco Theatre

I want to talk about the incredible show I saw a few weeks ago. I got the pleasure of seeing Hedwig & The Angry Inch for 20 bucks, thanks to FIT and their student priced tickets. If you don’t know what this is, I’m sure you’ve been subjected to the one of a million posters that are posted throughout the MTA. This is, by far, one of the best perks of being a student in NYC. If you’ve been following the blog for a while you will remember that I got to see A Raisin In the Sun (starring Denzel Washington) last semester. Hedwig & The Angry Inch is a Tony award winning musical playing on Broadway, starring Michael C. Hall. Michael plays an East German transgendered singer whose the vocalist for a rock band. Everything about the show was phenomenal. The plot was fresh (what better time to have seen this then in October, which is LGBT month), the music ranged from rock ballads to nearly screamo, but every song was performed flawlessly. The set the musical was constantly changing and kept the audience engaged. Finally, the hair, makeup and outfits were spectacular.

I really enjoy going to plays via FIT because I am usually sitting next to another FIT student, so I get to meet new people that I have something in common with. And we know meeting people organically, create the strongest relationships.
