Global Sourcing – The Balancing Act

If you oversee any aspect of the supply chain, you know flexibility, balance, and leverage are key factors to success. Supply chain and sourcing managers are in consonant motion to keep ahead of developing trends, manufacturing capabilities, pricing initiatives, global economies and political unrest. Over the decades we have moved between distributors, wholesalers, buying offices, agents, overseas offices, and factory direct. Most companies quickly realized that a mix of sourcing initiatives provide the best balance and allows for growth through multiple collaborations. Edward Hertzman, Sourcing Journal January 15, 2015, presented an excellent article addressing the benefits of a mixed supply chain and the changing role of agents.
