Program: Saturday Live Spring 2018

Precollege Course: JSX 035 Color Theory

What are you currently working on?

In class, we are working on making collages, but right now as a personal project, I am painting a person.

What do you like best about your class?

The painting, like mixing them and discovering new colors. Also just the whole class in general.

What is your favorite thing about Precollege?

It’s fun to take extra classes on things that I enjoy doing.

Where do you get your ideas? What inspires you?

Mostly from fashion. I like drawing humans with certain outfits on them, and I am into sewing.

Dont Miss Me Too Much

Sadly, my class has come to an end. My mood board is being perfected and when I finish I will be emailing my professor for feedback. Now, I know all the skills I need to get into FIT. Professor Cutting made it easy and clear on how to make everything perfect and neat. He taught me how to photoshop my background, shade and cut out my fashion figures, how to cut swatches and how to make everything the best I can.

When my portfolio is complete, It will look something like this:

But, don’t miss me too much, FIT. In the summer I will be taking a sewing class to create a denim jacket to add to my portfolio. I will be focusing on my portfolio this summer and hopefully, I will be accepted into FIT.

I am a dream chaser and I will not let anything stop me from accomplishing my goal. I hope one day I’ll become a big brand designer for swimwear and will be able to thank FIT. I highly recommend classes at FIT because it made everything seem possible and taught me things that I had no idea about in the past. Being successful means you have to work hard at everything you do and don’t let any obstacles break you or stop you from completing your goal. What is your goal in life?

Introducing Precollege Intern: Mahalia

Hi! My name is Mahalia, I’m a photographer in the making, and I am an intern here at FIT’s Precollege Program. My passion for art, more specifically photography, was what brought me to FIT. I enjoy exploring different learning methods of art in different environments, and FIT is an incredible place for me to approach photography with a mindset on social components.

Out of all the different kinds of pictures I enjoy taking, landscapes, fashion, sports, etc. I adore taking portraitures. What caught my eye, was something about how humans react when they are on camera. People say you cannot judge a book by its cover, but I believe that a picture is worth a thousand words and more.

My goal in life is to become a professional photographer and be my own boss, which will require that I work extremely hard to reach that goal. In 2016 and 2017 I took classes at International Center of Photography (ICP) which taught me mostly about manual photography. However, right now I am focused more on the depth of digital photography and photoshop. Because not that many people know me, I also am learning how to network. Whenever I take pictures I am really fond of, I post them on an official photography Instagram account (@photo_moro) in order to make myself more known to the public.

Because I am a senior in high school, I deal with plenty of work and deadlines which builds stress for me. Coming from an artistic family, I find not only photography but art in general a stress reliever and much more. To me, art is something extremely fun and wonderful. Art makes the person I am today.

Describe your personal style: I like pastel and bright colors so I wear those often. I also really like hats because it hides my really badly dyed hair.

Where do you go on your breaks from class? I get Reeses peanut butter cups.

What is your favorite thing about FIT? It has nice atmosphere.

Who or what inspires you? The movie Coraline.

What do you want to do after you graduate from college? I would like to be an Animator.

outFIT’s @ FIT, by Arden

Let’s face it, it’s fun to get dressed on Saturdays and go to class. Mixing and matching texture, design, and color.  A woman’s time is most valued in the morning, getting the wells of creativity turning!

This week I thought it would be fun to create an album of different outfits I wore each week.

In preparation for my first class, my cowgirl boots popped in my head. This gave a good elevation for my flare jeans, also adding some contrast with the pointed toe of the boot. I paired this with a Free People top tucked in and then lightly pulled out. Of course, my knee length cardigan pulled it all together.

Today was a bad hair day, I needed something to cover up, and quick. I decided to wear my tie dye turban head wrap. Not a better way to wear it with a Ganesh graphic tee and Topshop leather jacket. I love this outfit because of it’s casual and cute feel.

This week I wore a denim jumpsuit, what a great base. I wanted to demonstrate the bounce of color from the pink and brown. How do you think I did? I threw on my cowgirl boots as a finishing touch before running out the door.

When mother nature cries, it’s the universe’s signal to wear my Calvin Klein trench. I layered this piece with a pair of printed pants and a black (material) one piece. And of course a light cashmere sweater, my savior.

Over all, I love overalls. Underneath I wore a J. Crew printed top (because underneath is really what matters). If you are like me and reach for the gold, I highly recommend going to an outlet store. This silk shirt I bought at the Jersey Shore Outlet, there are plenty others but the price in comparison is a steel! Because we were in the studio this week I decided to pair my outfit with comfy Aquatalia booties that are to die for. (Very thankful I fit into my mother’s shoes!)

Now I am starting to see a repetition of denim… But this week I decided to layer my denim dress with a fun beaded belt and warm grey kimono. I threw on a pair of comfortable purple flats from Target and one of  my most comfortable shoes.
