The Precollege Dream: Arden

I have high expectations for myself. Very high expectations. I dream to work my way up in retail whether it is starting at Claire’s and ending in Chanel, or Sales to corporate at Saks. I dream to be a top fashion blogger. I dream to work for Vogue and travel the world and learn from each experience. I dream to be invited to NYFW and strut in the most extravagant designer wardrobe. I dream to be personally invited to all kinds of fancy events and talk shows, to be honest, I just have a dream to wash my face twice a day. I have a dream and I dream to fulfill these dreams. I dream to go to FIT and work HARD. I dream to live the fashion dream.

I may come across as being a little dramatic because, well, you are supposed to dream of good health for yourself and your family. Dream of happiness and comfort. But I dream the fashion dream of glory and gratitude. But not to get ahead of myself, taking baby steps one at a time, one by one, starting at FIT, with my Precollege classes.

I have been growing. Each Precollege class I have taken there is a fine line form the first week to the last. My artistic interpretation has grown. My technique has grown. My personal vendetta has grown. I am growing, as a person and at this point in my life it’s all starting to come together. I have been dedicated in applying to Communication Design which has a high demand. So I would say that hard work does pay off, and it has been. Precollege class have been giving me a peek through the keyhole to pinpoint what I enjoy doing the most.

Prior to any Precollege classes I started my art journey at my local high school. These classes have been so beneficial towards my success. It has given me the knowledge through trial and error of what media I use the best and ways of improving my drawing technique with practice.

I learned the essentials of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. It has definitely taken a lot of time and hard work. I enjoyed it, creating pieces of typography from my notebook to the MacBook.

Color, texture, flow- in a nutshell.

It took some time to get all 3 of those elements in harmony. In the weekly assignment of mood boards, you could see my development of skill from the first week to the last.

The first class I was clueless. I am still learning the balance of taking a good photograph, the shutter speed, aperture, IOS; and that is just the start. This is the current class that I am taking and just being the third week in I can already see a drastic improvement of my skills being applied.

Improvement is essential in life. My improvement gearing to FIT is essential. I dream the Fashion dream along with the dream of good health and prosperity.

Before and After Fashion Forecasting

Hi lovely readers,

These past few weeks have been so much fun and such a learning experience that I will never forget. It taught me about fashion and even life skills. From the course to the commute. Overall I feel as though I have grown so much in the past few weeks. I would have to say my professor was the biggest impact on my growth. Professor Suzanne Piazza is understanding and has so much experience that it makes me excited just to hear her stories of being in the industry. My commute was also a huge impact on me, even though my commute isn’t too bad, it taught me time management and independence. Taking the course made me realize you always need back up plans and to be creative with any situation. Before this course I really didn’t have a tight grasp on the whole industry, also I would never have seen myself showing my family and friends directions in the city!

Fashion Forecasting is all about developing upcoming trends. I really did not know what to expect coming into this course due to mainly it was my first time ever going to FIT and taking a Precollege course. My outlook on the topic did not change negatively I am just more intrigued and really know what I want to do with my life. I really encourage everyone to take one of these classes. My goal for the rest of the class is to get a good grade on my final project.

I still have so much to learn about the industry luckily the course is not finished yet! See you next time! xoxo

My Goals

Hey lovely readers,

Ever since I’ve started the precollege program at FIT, it really makes you look at your future in all aspects. It could be extremely stressful but also extremely enjoyable and satisfying. When you finally know what you want and how to get there. For myself, I have quite the grasp on what I want to do but also I am prepared for anything to come…I hope. My first choice college would have to be FIT, but if unfortunately I did not get accepted. I would like to go to SUNY Oneonta, and major in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business Communications. Thinking about where I am going to be in 5 or 10 years makes me feel all kinds of nervous. But, I would like to have an internship or a job at a luxury brand like Marc Jacobs, Burberry, or Givenchy. I am so interested in how they start the new trends and how other brands follow. I would even love to work at a fashion magazine, working with the featured clothes and styles.

Even though my goals are broad and time consuming, anyone who is determined can get anywhere they want in life. I know, so cliche. But starting a little bit smaller: My FIT precollege goals. I am starting my 5th week and obviously, I am loving it. I find the city very motivating and every person so interesting. I have my next project due this upcoming week for Fashion Forecasting and I am very nervous! We had to take an era in time and research about its fashion trends. We have to do an oral presentation, a mood board or a PowerPoint, and an essay. I really hope I do well, I worked harder on this than my actual homework. My goals in the class is to obviously do well and absorb every possible thing out of the lessons. Also, to really enjoy the city and my new friends.

I feel as though I grow every week. It is such an experience…from the commute to the class. I really need these next weeks to slow down!

Last Day of Classes!

Hi Everyone!
Well another great semester at FIT has come to an end and I feel like just yesterday I was sitting down writing my first blog post. It’s crazy to think I’ve completed my second Precollege class. I really enjoyed the class I took this summer. I feel like I got an inside look at what the beauty industry is really all about. All 3 of my professors were so knowledgeable and taught me so many great things.

As the summer begins coming to a close there are definitely both feelings of excitement and nerves about entering into my senior year of high school. This is the year I will begin applying to colleges and FIT is definitely at the top of my list.

The cosmetics and fragrance Precollege course really reminded me how much I love the beauty industry. From making products to learning about marketing I loved every minute of it and I hope to pursue a career in this field in the future.

My friends Marissa, Olivia and I!

My friends Marissa, Olivia and I!

I’m glad that I was able to have an opportunity to attend classes at FIT before applying. Taking these courses really showed me that having a career in the fashion industry is definitely something I want to do. Its been so much fun blogging this semester. I hope everyone enjoyed their classes and has an amazing summer.

Best of luck to everyone!

OOTD Madness

To be honest, my typical lazy summer days at home consist of me head to toe in comfortable pajamas: slouchy school tee shirt and thin, loose shorts. Basixally , I usually look like a huge bum over the summer…

…Until F.I.T came along. This institution truly has transformative powers to the point where my whole summer outfit has changed. I bring out the flashy rings, lace up my shiny sneakers, and throw on a wacky but stylish dress. I’ve got a bad case of “OOTD madness” now.

What I’ve really learned from my class (Fashion Forecasting) is how to scout out trends while simultaneously reinventing my own personal style to a more refined level. As I watch how fashion is influenced by the world and different events, my personal world and mindset are influenced by fashion.

So let me share with my crazed OOTD fanaticism:
