How can FIT’s Precollege Programs help you on your Artist’s Journey

The painter Chuck Close is quoted as saying “Inspiration is for amateurs—the rest of us just show up and get to work.” To be a professional artist takes skill and studio discipline. Workshops and courses taught by artists will help you develop the studio practice you need to be a full-time artist.
11-session Precollege Courses

We recommend a high school Precollege Workshop:

Farewell Post by Rachel K.

FIT’s Summer of 2015 Pre-College Cosmetics and Fragrance Lab was “da balm!” From going on an amazing Sephora field trip to making cosmetics such as lip balm, perfume, body oil, bar soap and moisturizer- everyday was full of excitement and fun! Not to mention, the numerous great friends I made in the short 3 weeks I was there. Each one of my fabulous FIT classmates were unique and talented in their own way and were a key addition to making my FIT Precollege experience amazing. On top of that, I learned so much important information on the beauty business. Growing up I had always aspired to just be a make-up artist but I knew there had to be something more than that. By taking this class I learned the incredible business opportunities within cosmetics and fragrance field and broadened my knowledge to figure out exactly what I want to do in the future. To any girl or guy looking to learn more about the beauty “biz” while making a ton of friends and studying in one of the greatest fashion cities in the world- you can’t go wrong by taking this summer class! I’m sure glad I did!!

At FIT We Always Kiss and Tell!

About to apply my new favorite delicious plum lipstick!

About to apply my new favorite delicious plum lipstick!

Do you love experimenting with lipstick colors? I do! One day I’m wearing “Gwen Stefani red” and the next I’m applying “Kim Kardashian nude”. Usually I buy a new lip color weekly but not anymore because… now I can make my very own!

This week in the Cosmetics and Fragrance lab we created our own lipstick by melting 28 ml of wax on a hot plate and mixed in 0.1 ml of our favorite dye color as well as 0.1 ml of our favorite flavoring. My partner and I decided to do a chocolate-cherry plum lipstick using purple dye and cherry and chocolate chip flavoring. When finished and mixed to a nice, smooth substance; we poured our mixes into actual lipstick tubes. It came out absolutely AMAZING! It has a beautiful sheer color that matches any look.

What cool things have you created in your precollege class this summer that you’re proud to show off? Share below!

FIT: Give me “some mor’a” of that Sephora!

Do you think all Sephora stores are the same? I can answer that in a New York minute…NO! On Monday, I had my first FIT class trip to the ultimate modern NYC Sephora store located in the Meatpacking District. This Sephora screamed “urban cool”. The interior design was so unique: black and white tiled walls, a chandelier made of antique perfume bottles, and a wall of fixtures dedicated just to brushes. This location also carries exclusive international cosmetic brands, products and services. After 2 hours of cosmetic bliss, I picked out exactly what I wanted to purchase and paid using the fast mobile checkout system. Lucky for me and my fashion forward classmates,

the day ended with a beauty advisor giving each of us a “goody” bag of fragrances and cosmetics. Now let’s “face” the facts; not every FIT class trip will be to a fabulous Sephora store but for my first trip it was spectacular. Has anyone else experienced a great first pre-college summer field trip?
