See You Next Semester!

FIT is almost over (sad face!) but I’ve had such an amazing experience. I loved meeting great people and making friends, and of course writing on FIT’s blog. I have 15 days left of school (but who’s counting?) and then finals/regents before the summer comes. I’m working all summer at a boring food place. My professor told us to get a job in retail starting out but nobody wants to hire at 15! However, over the summer I plan on shadowing my mom’s cousin who is a buyer for Bloomingdales for a couple of days! I also plan on interning as a stylist’s assistant, which should be a great opportunity! Overall, my summer plans are going to keep me pretty busy, but I will definitely be taking the classes at GIT in the spring semester!

If you are thinking about taking a class at FIT- go for it! I would recommend taking a morning class because it doesn’t waste the whole day- you can meet up with your friends later (I always could get home by 2pm) or hang out in the city! I’ve also had friends come and meet me in the city, which is a fun way to spend the day.  If think you might feel uncomfortable not knowing anybody, try signing up with a friend! Even if you don’t take the same class you will have a train buddy and you can meet up after class! However, once you’re in class, be outgoing and speak up!  In my first class everyone was very quiet and attached to their BlackBerrys, but introduce yourself to the people next to you and find out where they’re from. I promise everyone will be glad you did.

The last thing- it is a class. You will have assignments and grades – so be prepared. But you should really enjoy everything you are doing (I did!) and try to make the most out of class while you’re there (that means put down the smartphone!). Finally, FIT is great because they have the fall, spring, and summer semesters. If you play a fall sport, it might be better to take a spring class. Try not to fill up your schedule too much so you can avoid getting over tired and burnt out. I’m already excited for the fall semester and I hope to see you all there!
