My Final Project

The finale is almost here with just one more class to go. That means, final projects are almost or currently completed and due. The assignment for the final project was to create a table top setting inspired by one specific designer. Our group chose Dior.

Dior ejects an elegant, dainty, delegate, sweet, romantic and most of all, classy appeal. Each member of my group contains one of the traits and contributed to the project with equal involvement. Even though not one of us owned any useful Dior materials, we made use of what we had. We brought items into class that reflected the inspiration statement we came up with for the project. We decided on the color scheme: pastels, white, and silver. We cut out anything with pearls, gold, and black so that everything would mesh well and not stray off  scale.

Fashion is a forever changing industry. Nothing is steady for too long. One minute something is in and the next, it’s out.

The First Set Up:

The first set up of the project was completely different then the final piece, which was of course, inevitable.

We incorporated a Dior shopping bag in the background with cloth napkins coming out of the bag, giving the illusion of tissue paper. We chose cloth napkins instead of actual tissue paper because we wanted to stay on track with the theme (Cloth napkins belong on a table top, tissue paper does not). The floppy hat was a very stylish prop that filled up the empty space. Unlucky us though, we could not shoot the background and we could not find the right angle.

The Second & Final Set Up:

Lucky for us, it didn’t take us long to find the right angle to shoot. We moved all of the props from the table onto the floor and decided to shoot from above other then a 3/4 angle. We also rearranged and added and eliminated props.

The Final Result:

Just like fashion has many alterations, so does my mind. That is why I think Fashion and I get along so well. We both love experimenting and trying new things, even if there is a risk of it winding up on the ‘worst dressed’ list.

My ideas are never identical to one of my friend’s; they may differ dramatically or just a pinch. Group work always includes a second voice. The voice that might make your project wind up on the ‘best dressed’ list. Without these girls, Sam and Justine,  the exceptional ideas would have never been an option without all our contribution.

Throughout this whole experience, I got to do things I love: style shoots and receive professional feedback, travel to NYC every weekend and meet friends with mutual interests. Overall, FIT was an amazing adventure.

Michella
