The Farolita Walk

THE COLOR CORNER

The Farolito Walk, joined by tourists, Santa Feans with dogs, children and anyone with a warm holiday feeling, is an excellent reason to come to Santa Fe for the holidays.  This walk on Christmas Eve 2011 on Canyon Road got started in the late 1970s. Small bonfires called luminarias and votive candles in paper bags, called farolitos light the walkways, changing the colors from day to night. The holiday colors of red and green on cobalt blue doors were reflected in the just fallen snow. The farnlitos highlight the aesthetically simple holiday decorations and the windows of art galleries and houses on Canyon Road.
