Artist panel discussion: In the Studio: Illuminating Process

ARTSpeak presents an artist panel discussion on Monday April 21, 2014, 6:30 – 8 pm in the Katie Murphy Amphitheatre. This event is open to the public.

The panelists featured are  Arlene Shechet, Chuck Webster, and Charles Yuen, who will talk about their work in the context of the ARTSpeak 2013-14 theme, “In the Studio: Illuminating Process.” The panel will be moderated by FIT History of Art Professor Mari Dumett, and will take place during the collaborative exhibition of Art History and Museum Professions and Fine Arts students in the FIT Library.

Arlene Shechet has received broad recognition for her corporeal and suggestive ceramic work. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, and her work is in the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Shechet currently lives and works in New York City and upstate New York.

Chuck Webster is known for his playful quasi-abstract paintings and drawings. His work was exhibited in a solo show at ZieherSmith in New York in 2012, and is in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the MFA Houston. He lives and works in Brooklyn.

Originally from Hawaii, Charles Yuen moved to New York City after receiving an MFA from Rutgers University. He has had solo exhibitions at Elizabeth Harris Gallery; ADA Gallery, Richmond, VA; and the Downtown Gallery, Honolulu. Yuen has participated in community-based activities including being a founding member of Godzilla, an Asian American arts organization.
