Petersons fashion plate 1875: women in winter clothing

Thanksgiving week seems an ideal time to be talking about anything on or in plates. And our post later in the week is all about the history of fashion plates in Godey’s Lady’s Book. (It should come out Wednesday, November 21.) With that in mind, I thought I’d highlight some other library resources on fashion plates.

We have a lot of books that have been published about fashion plates in our collections. These are just a few to whet your appetite:

Bustle Fashions, 1885-1887, by Frances Grimble

Eighteenth-century French Fashion Plates in Full Color, 1778-1787

80 Godey’s Full-Color Fashion Plates, 1838-1880

Bustle Fashions: 1885-1887

Additionally, the library has many original fashion plates in our Special Collections and College Archives (SPARC).

SPARC has its own gorgeous blog, written by the lovely and talented April Calahan. April has also written a history of fashion plates, which we also have in our collection:

Fashion Plates: 150 Years of Style

Here are some posts that April has written about fashion plates:

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, everyone!
