Hi, everyone! Welcome back. The first few weeks of class are super busy here in the library, as well as for you all, and we’re just catching up. We didn’t want to let the month slip away without giving a shout out to an event near and dear to our hearts: New York Textile Month!
Created by Li Edelkoort, a maven in the field of design and forecasting, this NYC monthlong event is intended to educate people on the long history of textile traditions, their central place in world economies and arts, and to celebrate that the current cultural shifts are being expressed by and with textiles and their technologies. She says this much more inspirationally here.
FIT is participating in this celebretory month with some popup textile displays in the lobby of the Goodman Resource Center. The library is playing too: we’re hosting a textile-themed Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Tuesday September 27 and Thursday September 29th from noon to 2pm, on the 5th floor of the library.
Please register in advance if you want to come help out. Librarians will be at the ready to help you get started and to help you with the research on your topics.
Hoping to see many of you there!
