This week the America at Home students toured the American Wing Galleries at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in preparation of researching 20th century interiors and decoration.
Absolutely one of my favorite class trips. Each time, this week concludes my 8th, I discover something new. My all time favorite is a piece of furniture in gallery 709, the Hart Room – Chair-Table.
This piece is the quintessential of small space living in the seventeenth century. Crafted of red oak, yellow cedar, and white pine with a tabletop diameter of 43″ and a drawer under the seat area for storage, it is the perfect piece for today’s NYC studio living – all it needs is a brightly colored cushion for comfort and color.
