I did not do well on a handout/textbook assignment or a quiz… now what?!

ANSWER: Don’t worry and let’s make sure you understand any mistake(s).

  • As soon as the assignment is due the answers are on our course site / learning management system. Make a note of which question(s) you got wrong. Do NOT look at the right answer(s) YET. First, try any you got incorrect again. Then compare. Maybe you figured out the mistake on your own already!
  • If you did that first step but are still not getting the correct answer: contact me. Send me a message with the assignment and which you are not getting correct, etc. The best is if you include a link to your GoogleDoc with work. This way I can see why you go the wrong answer. It may be a simple mistake and I can comment right on your GoogleDoc to help.
  • Okay – you did both of these steps but it’s not clicking. Please let me know! I will then either make a video explanation of the correct answer and or we make an office hour appointment.
  • You can always ask me to make a video about whatever material is giving you trouble. I do like making videos BEFORE doing an office hour just because a video can last forever and I can share it with future students who may have the same issue.

Still feeling disappointed about the grade?

In the future, please feel free to send me your answers to any of the assignment (with at least 24 hours notice) and I can let you know if something is incorrect! Instructions are in the course information documents but basically I give you a google doc with what the assignment is – make a copy of the doc and do work, showing as many steps as you can so I can highlight and make comments on your thinking. I would love for you all to get a perfect score on every assignment!

Also, you are welcome to contact the Academic Skills Center at FIT and you can work with a tutor if you rather not work with me but I prefer helping you out myself!
