Deborah Hernandez is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Certified Color Specialist in the School of Art and Design at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Professor Hernandez has been teaching at FIT since 1997. Deborah’s expertise is as a custom luxury carpet designer and rug production specialist with over 28 years of industry experience. Presently she is working on specialty handmade rugs with sustainability and natural dyes at the forefront of development. Additionally, she is a painter and a writer currently working on her first book drawn upon her experience as a carpet designer.
She received her BFA in Illustration with a Minor in Textile Surface Design, and her AAS in Fine Arts from The Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY.
