2D Artwork Documentation Tutorial

By popular demand, the ARL has published a brief tutorial on how to document flat artwork in the lab.  This covers setup and usage of the Steady On Studio Lights and Diffusor Umbrellas, and can be found below, or in the Tutorials and How To’s section of this Blog.

The ARL is a self service lab. The lab itself and the equipment we have available for check out are provided as a service to the students at FIT, but we do not offer tutorials or assistance with setup.

The following links to video guides may prove useful to you in the usage of our photography offerings.

Nikon D3300: Video Tutorials from Nikon
– The Nikon D3300 is available for check out.  It is a good multipurpous digital SLR for very high resolution photography.

Stand Lights: Setting up lights for Artwork Documentation
– This is a video tutorial from a community college in Virginia (PVCC).  Although their equipment is somewhat different than ours, the basic premises of how to document flat artwork successfully may be useful.

ARL Equipment Requisition

 General Policies for Checkout

You must fully understand that you are financially responsible for all equipment checked out from the library and  will replace any item that is damaged or is not returned.

Loan Period – Maximum of 3 hours. All items are due ONE HOUR before the library closes.

Fines – $10.00 per hour for each hour overdue, plus $50.00 each overnight if not returned by closing time.

Replacement Cost – The cost of each item plus a $20.00 processing fee per item.

ARL-02: Dolly Mounted Projector


Portable Boxlight projector can be placed anywhere in the room. It is an excellent tool for close-to-wall projections, great for enlarging images to draw or paint, or it can be used experimentally for film or still photography.

The projector is on wheels and can interface with any VGA output laptop, or the ARL’s lab PC.
