{"id":7913,"date":"2016-04-11T16:37:04","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T20:37:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fitnyc.edu\/artanddesign\/?p=7913"},"modified":"2018-04-01T14:08:30","modified_gmt":"2018-04-01T18:08:30","slug":"eight-fit-students-a-record-in-society-of-illustrators-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fitnyc.edu\/artanddesign\/2016\/04\/11\/eight-fit-students-a-record-in-society-of-illustrators-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Eight FIT students, a record in Society of Illustrators&#8217; competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Babies of wire confetti, a crowned rabbit, little girls watering topiary, a vet mechanic, and skeletal love, are among the themes of the eight FIT student illustrations selected\u00a0by the <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.societyillustrators.org\/Awards-and-Competitions\/Student-Scholarship\/Overview.aspx');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.societyillustrators.org\/Awards-and-Competitions\/Student-Scholarship\/Overview.aspx\">Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition<\/a>. The field was narrowed from 8,700 entries. According to the Society, the judges made their choices based on &#8220;quality of technique, concept and skill of medium.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The work was enormously diverse&#8211;pen and ink, egg tempera, oil, gouache, digital, traditional. says Professor Richard Elmer who had Bonilla in his Mentor class. &#8220;He had a pretty good idea of the direction he wanted to explore, conveying conflict as he himself experienced it\u00a0through contrasting color and medium. She has a keen interest in medical illustration specifically medical oddities. She\u00a0wrote the text and illustrated the images with beautifully rendered drawings for her book project &#8216;Atlas Obscura: Medical Oddities.&#8217; In Book Illustration II she painted 11 of the interiors including &#8216;Sisters&#8217; (above). The interior illustrations are meticulously painted using egg tempera. I\u00a0feel very fortunate to have had such a talented and ambitious student like <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/meaganmeli.tumblr.com\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/meaganmeli.tumblr.com\/\">Meagan<\/a>.
