Most people consider that a celebration&#8221; says Agwam. &#8220;I consider it a demand, that Black people be represented in a positive light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agwam&#8217;s work has gained notice this year from both his professors and peers. Sometimes the people in the work are friends, family, past lovers. Sometimes they are people that don\u2019t exist. It\u2019s seen as a mischievous grin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agwam studied <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.fitnyc.edu\/illustration\/program\/curriculum.php');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.fitnyc.edu\/illustration\/program\/curriculum.php\">Illustration Rendering Techniques<\/a> with Prof. Hoston. &#8220;Emmanuel has a great color sense in his painting. He embellishes to his own tastes. But I&#8217;ve outgrown the mentality of putting money over creative satisfaction,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p>His works\u2019 prominent use of rendered textures, and in creating a narrative with each piece, comes from illustration, he says. It\u2019s a reality that I\u2019ve lived with since I was a child. It\u2019s not anything new. The difference from 10 years ago is that it\u2019s being shared on a gargantuan scale. People who have turned a blind eye or who have been ignorant to the issues, are now able to see what\u2019s been going on.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The greater \u201cturmoil and rage\u201d right now is necessary, says Agwam.
