Students See Update for a Landmark Building

Bringing a landmark building up to date requires a great deal of sensitivity.  To see the work-in-progress on-site is a rare opportunity and great education for students.

These students from Professor Manuel Mergal’s Interior Design Technology III class, recently visited a New York City townhouse gut renovation project for which their professor is the architect.

According to Professor Mergal the building is on the National Register of Historic Places, so any intervention has to be reviewed by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

“The students were able to see first-hand all the issues that we discuss during class: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, acoustical, structural, and more,” he says.
