{"id":5712,"date":"2019-12-13T09:00:57","date_gmt":"2019-12-13T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fitnyc.edu\/admissions\/?p=5712"},"modified":"2023-11-16T10:53:26","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T14:53:26","slug":"becoming-a-part-time-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fitnyc.edu\/admissions\/2019\/12\/13\/becoming-a-part-time-student\/","title":{"rendered":"Becoming a Part Time Student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi everyone,<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s my last week of being a full time college student! \u00a0My last semester, Spring 2020, I will be only taking 2 classes at FIT. \u00a0I&#8217;m really excited to have more time in my schedule to work, and start a full time job hopefully.<\/p>\n<p>During my last few years at FIT I had tried to stack classes and knock out as much as possible, and as I looked at my upcoming classes needed for senior year I realized I could be part time my last semester. \u00a0Full time is 12+ credits, typically 4 or so classes, and part time is 11 and a half credits a semester and below. \u00a0Instead of paying a lump sum for a semester, part time students pay per credit taken. \u00a0Next semester I have two classes, which are 6 credits total. \u00a0I had done a lot of classes ahead so if I needed to make anything up to graduate on time I could, but the side benefit of paying less this last semester is pretty sweet.<\/p>\n<p>This option isn&#8217;t for everyone (some scholarships and aid require you to be full time), but for me it worked out perfectly and I am excited for the flexibility it brings. \u00a0If I get hired at a company I am able to work full time. \u00a0It will be nice to cushion the transition from college to working after graduation. \u00a0And who needs free time anyways?<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, I think it&#8217;s always important to be looking for ways to help yourself! \u00a0Wether it is taking extra classes, spacing out classes, getting tough subjects for you out of the way, or taking a semester off, see how you can make your college experience the best for YOU.<\/p>\n<p>Sam<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi everyone, It&#8217;s my last week of being a full time college student! \u00a0My last semester, Spring 2020, I will be only taking 2 classes at FIT. \u00a0I&#8217;m really excited to have more time in my schedule to work, and start a full time job hopefully.
