#Payitforward

Did you know currently in NYC there are 58,780 homeless people, 14,107 homeless families, and 23,692 homeless children? As it is starting to get closer to cold weather I recently saw something that truly broke my heart and I need to give back. Being a voice that is heard quite often I felt I should tell of all you as well and maybe more people will give back too.

As I was walking down 7th avenue towards FIT I took a quick detour down a side street where my brother works. It was one of the chiller days and I had a coat on, warm boots and a scarf. I walked slowly past a family who was sitting on a piece of card board begging for food not even money. It was a mom, a dad, a son and a dog. I felt so horrible they looked so cold and so hungry but I knew I didn’t have any money so I couldn’t help. I walked past twice and did nothing as I got to school I couldn’t stop thinking about them. As I was sitting in class I knew that if it was bothering me this much I had to do something. I vowed to myself that after class I would walk back use my credit card buy them lunch and some extra food for later before I left the city for work. But sadly they weren’t there I walked down a few street but they were no longer anywhere to be found. I went home that day and promised myself the next time I encountered something like that I would pay it back. I would help at least one person with one meal, or buy them something that would keep them warm.

I am so blessed I have a warm home to go to every night, I have a good job a couple in fact, and with a lot of hard work and sleepless nights  I am able to attend college. I have great family and friends who support me and I do complain about simple things that happen through my day. While I think these things are horrible someone else is praying for my life, trying to get back on there feet to have the things I have. So from this moment forward I’m asking you and anyone you know to pay it forward help someone in need, even if you cant afford it give a few dollars, maybe your snack you have in your bag ? Anything helps!

How will you help?
