This trade publication also has a great website, which announces interesting new industrial projects, business information*, upcoming trade shows, and provides a list of resources. One resource of particular use to the industry and the FIT Library, the annual Buyer’s Guide.
A quick flip through the Buyer’s Guide shows the huge range covered by the term “Specialty Fabrics”. From the term “yarn”: anti-static; cored; cut-resistant; nylon, textured; nylon, solution-dyed; polyethylene, non-wicking;
And under “end products”: bags, ballast; bags, tote; canopies, marine; curtains, marine; curtains, welding; houses, ice fishing; liners, pit and pond; tarpaulins, solar agricultural; tents, circus or big tops; It really is a reminder that textiles are everywhere around us.
This title is an official publication of the Industrial Fabrics Association International, which is the largest textile trade association in the world. It was begun in 1912, as the National Tent and Awning Association. This group is a non-for-profit organization that represents companies involved with specialty (usually non-fashion related) fiber, fabric, equipment, and related end products. This organization publishes several other titles we have here, Marine Fabricator, Geosynthetics, Fabric Architecture, and InTents.
This title continues an older one, Industrial Fabric Products Review. This older magazine tended to put innovative textiles on its cover, and I pulled a few cool images for you.
And this one, which I pulled because the Oscars are coming up soon, yay!
