    Ask ITAsk IT Question:

I’m an interior design student and i use autocad 2007 version. And i can’t open some Autocad project.
Example,i download some cad files on this site or site ect. but i can’t open files.
How can i change to dwg files versions ?

    Thank you

    Ask IT Answer:

    Dear Alice,

We tried to contact you will the email address you provided us with, but it came back as a non-valid address.

Online resource sometime become outdated. In this case the current version of AutoCAD is version 2014. Hence the version you are trying to open is 7 releases behind. The owners (the two websites) needed to have updated the samples files/resources.

Autodesk may allow up to 2 version backward compatibility, and probably not 7 versions.

Consider talking to your instructor about the issue.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud at FIT

    Adobe Creative Cloud

I am happy to inform you that academic classrooms and faculty licensing will not be adversely affected by Adobe’s new subscription licensing model. FIT students will have the option to purchase CS6 or subscribe to the Creative Cloud. As you know, Adobe announced that Creative Suite 6 (CS6) would be its last major release sold via traditional CD/DVDs and that it would no longer offer perpetual licenses of its products but instead adopt a subscription service model.

Also, this June Adobe will release a new version of Creative Suite. The various titles in the collection will now have a “CC” label to denote Creative Cloud instead of being called CS7. Faculty members may contact the Help Desk starting July 1 to request office installations and home licenses.

Adobe Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, etc, will be available throughout all academic classrooms and labs in fall.

You may read more about Adobe Creative Cloud by visiting the web resources below.

Please do not hesitate to call me or email should you have any questions.

  • Advanced Wireless Upgrade Project

    FIT Community

As President Brown referenced during her Convocation comments, FIT is deploying an advanced wireless technology solution.  The new system will blanket all administrative and academic buildings with over 500 access points, providing high quality wireless signal strength.  The system is designed to support classrooms and other high concentration usage areas.

Design and configuration activities will occur over the next few weeks.  You may notice IT staff walking through hallways and office areas to map locations that will require wireless access points.  Replacement of the legacy (existing) wireless technology will occur during Spring Break.  Additional wireless access points will be installed throughout the remainder of the spring semester.

The advanced wireless upgrade project will be complete and ready to support FIT for the Fall 2013 semester.

During Summer 2013, technology to improve wireless access in the FIT Dorms will be completed.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve FIT services
