Fashion Forecasting

Hello readers,

As the weeks of precollege soon become memories. I have learned so much from my class “Fashion Forecasting”. This course teaches all about current and upcoming trends of the textures, colors and materials of clothing. Mainly focusing on the styling and buying of clothing. These past weeks besides the fun classes we went to 34th street to look into stores and take notice of reoccurring trends. Then another trip was to the well known fabric store “Mood” that the designers of Project Runway pick and buy their fabrics.

The store Mood was super fun and if you’re ever in the city, they have free sewing classes!  I was unable to make the trip to 34th street but it is always cool to pick and notice the new trends. Be a trend starter!

Before and After Fashion Forecasting

Hi lovely readers,

These past few weeks have been so much fun and such a learning experience that I will never forget. It taught me about fashion and even life skills. From the course to the commute. Overall I feel as though I have grown so much in the past few weeks. I would have to say my professor was the biggest impact on my growth. Professor Suzanne Piazza is understanding and has so much experience that it makes me excited just to hear her stories of being in the industry. My commute was also a huge impact on me, even though my commute isn’t too bad, it taught me time management and independence. Taking the course made me realize you always need back up plans and to be creative with any situation. Before this course I really didn’t have a tight grasp on the whole industry, also I would never have seen myself showing my family and friends directions in the city!

Fashion Forecasting is all about developing upcoming trends. I really did not know what to expect coming into this course due to mainly it was my first time ever going to FIT and taking a Precollege course. My outlook on the topic did not change negatively I am just more intrigued and really know what I want to do with my life. I really encourage everyone to take one of these classes. My goal for the rest of the class is to get a good grade on my final project.

I still have so much to learn about the industry luckily the course is not finished yet! See you next time! xoxo

My Goals

Hey lovely readers,

Ever since I’ve started the precollege program at FIT, it really makes you look at your future in all aspects. It could be extremely stressful but also extremely enjoyable and satisfying. When you finally know what you want and how to get there. For myself, I have quite the grasp on what I want to do but also I am prepared for anything to come…I hope. My first choice college would have to be FIT, but if unfortunately I did not get accepted. I would like to go to SUNY Oneonta, and major in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business Communications. Thinking about where I am going to be in 5 or 10 years makes me feel all kinds of nervous. But, I would like to have an internship or a job at a luxury brand like Marc Jacobs, Burberry, or Givenchy. I am so interested in how they start the new trends and how other brands follow. I would even love to work at a fashion magazine, working with the featured clothes and styles.

Even though my goals are broad and time consuming, anyone who is determined can get anywhere they want in life. I know, so cliche. But starting a little bit smaller: My FIT precollege goals. I am starting my 5th week and obviously, I am loving it. I find the city very motivating and every person so interesting. I have my next project due this upcoming week for Fashion Forecasting and I am very nervous! We had to take an era in time and research about its fashion trends. We have to do an oral presentation, a mood board or a PowerPoint, and an essay. I really hope I do well, I worked harder on this than my actual homework. My goals in the class is to obviously do well and absorb every possible thing out of the lessons. Also, to really enjoy the city and my new friends.

I feel as though I grow every week. It is such an experience…from the commute to the class. I really need these next weeks to slow down!

Trends for Fall 2015

November just began meaning colder weather is approaching. This could mean an excuse to do more shopping than usual. What else is better than staying warm and in style? Here are some trends I’ve been seeing everywhere and absolutely love.

Over the knee boots: Effortless and stunning on any body type. These boots will keep you warm and will suit any outfit! Pair with leggings, jeans or even a dress. These boots are very versatile. Perfect for a night out or the day time. Over the knee boots will add you a bit of maturity and sensuality.

Sneakers: Fall is the last season to wear your favorite sneakers before the snow invades. White sneakers have been all the rave lately. From adidas to Nike Air Force 1’s these will leave you feeling sporty and fun. You can work these with any outfit. Dress them up or down for everyday.

Cool Coats: Obviously coats are very necessary for the colder weather but if you’re like me, I love to layer and not just wear one big bulky coat. Bold colored jackets, fur coats, fur trimmed coats, vests, cape coats, dusters and longline jackets will keep you right on trend and ready for the brisk weather.

Bell Bottom Jeans: Ditch your skinny jeans…Bell bottom jeans are the next big thing. The 70’s trend is still going strong. Fit and flare jeans paired with a chunky sweater or with some high heel booties will make you feel confident and chic.

Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks were all over the runway. They are trendy as sweaters or as dresses and are great layering pieces. Even mock necks are everywhere too. Pair a chunky thick turtleneck dress with over the knee boots or with some skinny jeans and booties.

Introducing Precollege Blogger: Samantha

Samantha SosaI am Samantha Sosa. I just started my Junior year at Oceanside High School. It feels like I have written this introduction a million times and every time it is completely different. But, right now I’m not just tapping my foot with a blank stare trying to figure out something to create. I finally can just write..well type. I am a triplet and grew up with a single mother. I always had a sense of leadership and need of organization at the very start. With a life full of disarray I have always loved to write. I love how you can take a piece of literature and interpret it the way you desire. It gives such a sense of control in any chaotic life. I have quite the love for english. I am in AP English, my school’s newspaper and taking a creative writing class. Some might say I’m crazy. I take HFM 060  Fashion Forecasting: Seeing into the Future course for fall 2015. For any fashion and trend lover this is the class for you. Just after one class I’ve already learned an exceeding amount of information. I have never taken an FIT course before due to the case of protective mothers and their need to think of every possible worst situation out there. But, after begging and a lot of trust, I finally was able to attend.

Ever since I was little I found myself loving fashion. I always knew I wasn’t going to be happy anywhere else. I really can’t imagine myself sitting in a little cube office doing the same thing everyday. I love how the fashion world is constantly changing. From buying every magazine to looking at every fashion blog. I became consumed in this world. I would love to attend FIT and major in Fashion Business Management and hopefully with fingers crossed, work my way up to a fashion director one day.

I  love that I have the opportunity to blog. I have a lot to say and so many ideas. I am very creative. I could bring all aspects to the table. From clothing and fashion advice to the top “in budget” trends easy for anyone’s wallet. I feel this experience will benefit me in all aspects. I want to connect people to this society while I learn myself. It want to challenge myself to become a better writer, it would be a dream to see that I have the ability to teach and inform my experiences to others. I hope people can look at my posts and be inspired themselves.

I hope you learned a little about me and I hope I can get the chance to do what I want to do most!
