All I Have To Say Is Waffles

Before I begin my usual ramble of how class was today, I’d like to share how fabulous my breaks have been since I was introduced to the cafeteria.

It’s incredible that I have taken classes at FIT for three years and I never bothered to go to the cafeteria! Last week, someone from my class decided to take us on a trip there, and we have been going every break since. I strongly recommend to anyone who hasn’t been there to check it out because I MADE WAFFLES ON MY BREAK TODAY. Yes, you read that right. I made my very own Belgian waffle during my fifteen minute break. I saw the waffle maker and the waffle mix and immediately knew how my time would be spent.

For those of you who don’t believe it ’till you see it, I have PHOTO PROOF!

I might be overreacting a little bit, but I mean… waffles.

Not to mention that I bought waffles, a bagel, a drink, and two bags of chips with a friend and it only came out to about seven dollars total, meaning we each threw $3.50…that’s it.

So basically I think everyone should go and make themselves waffles on their breaks ’cause it’s seriously worth it.

I’m really trying to find the perfect thing to do for my self portrait, but I can’t think of anything! I don’t know if I want it to be very obviously me, or something more abstract, or even something in the middle. I drew up a few sketches of my ideas and I’m trying to weed through them, but so far I just keep coming up with more ideas instead of removing them!

During class today, someone else on the Communications board came into our class to drop by and say hi, and we were bold enough to ask her for some advice. She told us more about what colleges, and specifically FIT, looks for when reviewing portfolios, and what is most important or most necessary to include. Mostly I gathered that they want to see who you are, a lot of observational drawings, and some pieces from your sketchbook.

I also made plans to hang out with a girl from my class next week! We got friendly-er during our waffle making time, and have plans for next Sunday!

For now, the whole city is preparing for the hurricane that is supposed to hit us bad, so I’ve got to go tape all my windows! (Kidding, I don’t know anyone that does that)

Stay safe everyone!

Where do you normally like to go on breaks?

Until next time,

Mai

The Adventure Begins at 7AM.

“RING RING RING”! Time to get up and get ready to head to FIT!

My mornings on a Saturday consists of so many emotions, it’s insane! At first, I wake up- bummed for having to wake up at 7 in the morning on a Saturday (I’m a teenager, I can’t help it!) but then I realized, I’m doing it for a reason! And reason is FIT!

Once I finished dolling my little self up with clothing and make up, I head out the door! Walking a whopping half mile, I finally reach my destination.  My transportation is the “Paterson-New York” bus. Although it’s the most expensive, it is themost safe and short timed transportation from NJ to New York there is! It also leaves me right in front of Penn Station! Which is very convenient for the fact that FIT is only 10 minutes away!  I avoid anything and everything because I’m very determined not to be late for class!

Once class is over, I wonder around the city a bit, sight see, breathe in that NYC smell, you know, the smells of food and god knows what! I always end up being at that one place that everyone in The City loves, and possibly lives off of.

You guessed it. Starbucks! I always order a Double chocolaty chip Frappuccino! Absolutely delicious!

Don’t forget the Infamous Taco bell! A bit of a getaway once it’s lunch time. The American Mexican classics twist of food is amazing (I’m a bit of a food person)! Once I’m done stuffing my tummy with delicious mainstream food, I go to Penn Station and I’m off to Jersey. I always take a nap once I get home because it was such an accomplished day. I can’t to do it over and over again!

Is it just me?

Or am I the only one who didn’t know where the cafeteria was? ……..Buller……….Buller…..okay I think it was just me.

Even though I missed class this week, next week I know where I’m gonna be! You guessed right, the cafeteria! I know I sound lame going on and on about it but my mind was completely blown when I found it last weekend! In my time spent at FIT it never occurred to me to question “Hmmm, where is the cafeteria?”

Before, my breaks consisted of wondering the hallways for 10 minutes looking for the crappy vending machine or eating ice cream from Baskin Robins (yes, a very healthy choice at 11:45 in the morning). I can’t really say my breaks are very exciting because I end up being too lazy to get up from my seat so I just finish my work and of course, tumble, which by the way, I have changed my url to mrgeorgeharrisonseyebrows because face it, George Harrison had the best eyebrows I’ve ever seen on a person besides Madonna.

Now that I know that I don’t have to walk all the way down the street just to get a Frappachino and a Protein snack pack from Starbucks and whatever else they have in that fancy (by my standards) cafeteria, I might just come back a little bit later from break ;)

Pizza Or A Snickers?

I just want to start off by saying, WHY WAS IT SNOWING IN OCTOBER!? I know that many people are fans or the snow, but I am not one of those people. My trip to F.I.T. this week was horrific! It was like this weird yucky mixture of rain and snow and hail! D: However, I did get to wear my super cute earmuffs I’ve been dying to break out!

Well, in other news … F.I.T. is surrounded by cool boutiques, coffee shops and pizzerias. So, where should your hangout be for the 15 minute break or even after class? I personally prefer the vending machine (which I can now find without a problem) because I don’t have to step foot in the cold. I can usually get a few of the girls to come with me and I always get a snickers. On a good day, I’ll cross the street and grab a slice or a sandwhich from the pizzeria or order a tall white mocha from Starbucks. Those are the usual places for me :)

Before and after class I’m always rushing so I’ve never had time to visit the museum at F.I.T. or the bookstore or even just walk around. If I did have the time I would definately take a personal tour of the building and check out all the amazing projects that surround the halls. Maybe next week I’ll take some time to just hangout around F.I.T. :)

Manhattan As My Playground

Manhattan as my play ground.

Okay, so if you’ve been reading my blogs, by now you probably get that when I’m not at FIT, I’m constantly doing art projects, working, sewing, and trying to keep up with my high school classes. There’s a lot of overwhelming aspects to senior year, but my afternoons in downtown Manhattan aren’t one of them.  Even if I’m going solo, I always love to wander around and relax.

As far as hangouts go, it’s hard to carry all my supplies around the city, so I tend to stay close. My all-time favorite place to eat is Rosa’s Pizza across the street, but there are so many good places. I usually grab whoever I can from my classes to go with me to Starbucks, too. It sounds strange, but I go to Dunkin’ for coffee before class, and Starbucks on our break for tea. I have yet to check out the school’s cafeteria, but it’s on my to-do list for this semester.

As for fun, I could spend hours in the art supply/book store across the street. However, being an art student, this applies to all art stores and fabric stores. I also love the FIT museum. I’ve seen several exhibits throughout the years, and although eclectic and different from one another, they are always inspiring. I’m almost positive the current Daphne Guinness exhibit is my favorite so far.

When I take two classes at FIT which have an hour in between, I love to walk around. I always go to Buffalo Exchange or the Goodwill, which i’ve found amazing deals at. Besides, I love shopping and having to hunt around for things is a good way to keep from spending too much. I found a Guess denim vest for $4 last Spring, a Zara sweater for $7, and a Diane Von Furstenburg shirt for $22! Since FIT, I’ve become an expert thrifter.
