I’m Emily and I’ve been taking Precollege classes at FIT since the fall of my high school freshman year. All in all, I’ve taken Sewing for Fashion Designers, Fashion Design Techniques, Fashion Art for Fashion Designers, Advanced Fashion Design Art Techniques, Junior Special Occasion, and is signed up for Anatomy of Fashion this semester. Outside from fashion, I have been making beaded jewelry since I was nine, which I have sold to some celebrities and I love my chickens. I have 5. One of my goals is to design a line of gowns inspired by their feathers.
Being a 17 year old with a (slightly unhealthy) passion for fashion, can be quite a challenge when you have lived your entire life in Upstate New York. The small suburb of Loudonville, which consists of popped collars, Vineyard Vines everything and juicy gossip, is what I call home. A $50 Amtrak ticket can buy me a two and a half hour, one-way escape to one of the greatest fashion capitals of the world, New York City. Fashion is my form of self-expression. Clothing can define who you are, where you’re going and what you’re doing. You can learn someone’s story by just looking at how they styled themselves. When I am in New York City, I feel as though I can express my personal style without being judged!
I currently attend The Professional Performing Arts School in the heart of New York City’s Theatre District. Apart from Drama, I am interested in perusing a career as a Graphic Designer. I am particularly interested in Typography. There is just something about language and visual art I find enchanting and Typography is the perfect fusion of the two. I am currently enrolled in the HAD 149: Advertising and Graphic Design Portfolio class which I am looking forward to with great anticipation. What I hope to get out of this class is a new understanding and appreciation for graphic design, a few great pieces to put in my portfolio, and to learn a thing or two (or three or four) about the advertising world since it seems to go hand in hand with graphic design.
I’m currently a senior at the High School of Fashion Industries, where I’m lucky enough to major in Marketing. As a marketing student, I’ve taken Fashion Merchandising, Business Law, Data Entry, Visual Presentation, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and a ton more. FIT has been my dream school since I enrolled in my first Precollege course, Fabric Styling. I have also taken Intro. to Traditional and Digital Photography and Careers in Advertising and Marketing. I’m currently applying for colleges and scholarships, working, interning for FIT, and just trying to get by the rest of my senior year.
I’m Michaela, a 15 year old sophomore from Springfield, New Jersey who strives to make these Saturdays at FIT her everyday life. This semester I am taking HFM 064: The Ins and Outs of Fashion Merchandising and HPH 169: Fundamentals of Digital Photography and Photoshop. These are my 4th and 5th classes at FIT, so far I have taken the Mannequin Madness workshop, Fashion Forecasting: Seeing into the Future and Fashion Art for Fashion Designers. Clearly, I sort of like it at this place. When I’m not at FIT you can find me blogging, reading fashion magazines or anything under my “fashion sites/blogs” tab on my laptop, consisting of over 100 sites, yes, I am that crazy.
I’m Hannah, but I prefer to call myself Sissi. I’m from Brooklyn and have lived here my whole life. A lot of my style and design aesthetic has come from the wonderful and fashionable people who walk the streets where I live. I spend most of my spare time writing, designing, or sewing for Spirit Fashion, a magazine created by me and a friend. My main goal in designing clothes is to get what I see out there. I see fantastical things in my head and my one goal in life is to make then reality. I don’t know if this will lead to my showing at New York Fashion Week, as I have other things to worry about. I like to focus on making my art as high quality as possible, as I do in everything. I’m a little bit of a perfectionist but that comes in handy. I’m super excited to be taking, HAP025: Sewing for Fashion Designers and HAP017: Fashion Design Techniques.
