The Fashion Institute of Technology’s School of Graduate Studies and The Museum at FIT present Lauren Bacall: The Look, the first exhibition to exclusively explore Bacall’s career and personal style, in which her own garments take the spotlight. Organized by graduate students in the Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice program, this exhibition examines Bacall’s distinctive style within the context of her modeling, film, and theater careers. So this past weekend I had the chance to see the exhibit on Lauren Bacall, with a group of Precollege students. The day began at about 11 o’clock when I joined a class just starting their tour of the exhibit. So probably just as a few other people I totally didn’t know who Lauren Bacall was. I soon realized she’s totally got that style that everyone can recognize, but it was kind of edgy for her time. Some of the clothes she wore, which are actually on display, definitely show that. The pieces were totally to die for, it is definitely an exhibit to see!
