BANG

Sneaker. What’s the first image that pops into your mind? Hm… maybe a pair of Converse or Vans… maybe some Nike high tops. But there’s a new image that needs to be a part of that “sneaker compilation”: Bangs Shoes.

Today we had a guest speaker come in to talk about her start-up company centered on sneakers. To be honest, I always imagined guest speakers as these really qualified but unrelatable people who’ve gone on to do amazing things that I just can’t really connect myself with. Obviously, I respect them with every ounce of my body but there’s just something about them that makes me not want to pay attention 100%. But when this lady named Hannah entered, she totally lit up the dull classroom. This confident lady had a message and she intended on letting us know.

She started a company (Bangs Shoes) that is a for-profit organization that sells shoes to help people in need. She was inspired by the shoes she saw workers in China wearing and knew there was something special about their aesthetic after she got multiple compliments from wearing a pair. She decided to start her own company and use the profits to help individuals from struggling countries like Cambodia, India or Nicaragua. Her idea definitely inspired me to be a better person who can use success to assist others. Also, I loved the fact that in such a capitalist society she chose to create a business not based on selfish profit but something that looked out for the bettering of a whole global society.

Definitely check out Bangs Shoes at their website or Instagram!

Stand for something.
