Getting down to business

Preparing a portfolio should never be easy. If its easy, you’re not putting in your best work. The hardest part is that most schools offer fine arts classes, and other colleges want Fine Arts portfolios with a range of different requirements. I was making a portfolio for a FIT, which included garments and figures, another school that wanted Fine Arts, and my AP Art class, which is a 3D portfolio. Thankfully, FIT tells you exactly what they want you to submit for your major.

I also took Fashion Portfolio with Professor Giardina. The best part of the class is that it outlines what you need for your fashion portfolio in a simplified way. It also teaches you a lot of things that go into making a portfolio look professional, such as mounting your swatches and how to back them.

However, I’m finally done with college portfolios! My deposit for FIT is in and my roommate and I have secured our Coed Small Suite!  We met Saturday after class and got some Panera.

I also went to accepted students day, which was really exciting because I got a tour of the dorms, which I had never seen before, and met other people who are in my major face-to-face. We also had the chance to talk to fashion design majors currently attending FIT, in all different semesters.

My Fabric Styling class is teaching me alot about how to make presentation boards immaculate. We’re learning so much about how to properly mount everything from fabric swatches to magazine cutouts. In Fabric Techniques we’ve already draped a pencil skirt, a flared skirt, and we’re finishing up our first bodice. Overall, in just three weeks I’ve gotten really far and I’m excited to keep up this pace.
