Exit Lines, the MFA in Illustration Visual Thesis Exhibition, 2015, is open in Gallery FIT, the Museum at FIT. Nine illustrators have filled the gallery with works that move and emerge on the walls. Explore Times Square in 3D with Scott Fowler, visit the studios of artists vicariously through the work of Lynsey Hirth, travel on an animated journey through the Museum of Natural History with Han Yuan Yu, groove to rock classics and the interpretations with Jorge Saldana, just to name a few! Kudos to the class and to Professor Dennis Dittrich for leading another successful year towards the exhibition.
For the first time this year, our students have developed arts programming in partnership with the Society of Illustrators and the High School of Art and Design, led by Professor Anelle Miller. We’ll be posting pics from that, too, so come back!
Our own resident designer, typographer, illustrator, and of course, professor, Danny Pelavin is just back from Adobe Max 2013 Conference on Creativity in SoCal. With his usual mix of smart, cunning commentary, coupled with a sublime visual history, a nod to his mentors, and self-depricating humor that belies the brilliance of his work, he delivered his lecture, Fonts? We Don’t Need No Stinking Fonts! It is all at once humorous, informative and inspiring, just like Danny. Adobe described it this way: Take a tour of typographic design that crosses the boundaries between lettering and illustration with master designer Daniel Pelavin. Rarely using standard fonts, Pelavin prefers to create his own, giving his work an individuality made possible in large part by the powerful tools in Adobe Illustrator.
We are so proud that year after year, Danny donates his time and brilliance to design our catalog for Visual Thesis.
