As part of our Polyvore Live emerging designer series, we asked Dana-Maxx Pomerantz (Fashion Design ’05) about her experience throughout the competition. Read what this promising designer has to say about her love for FIT, her company Dana-Maxx, and Polyvore’s unique fashion community.
How did you hear about the emerging designer competition?
I received an email from the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s Alumni Relations office.
What made you decide to submit your work?
I am proud to be an alum from FIT, and I am confident in my product, so I thought it would be a great match.
How did you choose pieces from your collection?
I tried to choose a strong variety of pieces. I wanted to include pieces that did well in the press, did well for our stores, and items that I thought the Polyvore community would like.
Has Polyvore.com played a role in inspiring any of your work or personal sense of style?
I am such a fan of Polyvore! Sometimes the sets that people create do spark new ideas for me. I think it’s a great way for people who are interested in fashion to be a part of the fashion community and express their ideas and creativity. There’s nothing like it on the web right now.
What has been your reaction to thousands of users’ sets that have been created using your products?
Totally unexpected and amazing! I was so humbled by how many people took a strong interest in this challenge. There were so many incredible sets that it was hard to choose a winner.
What was it about Isamsam’s set that made it your favorite?
Isamsam’s set successfully married CoverGirl products with Dana-Maxx clothing. I also like how she included the date of the show on her set, which made me feel like she really wanted to be there.
Is there anything else you’d like to add about this experience?
This experience has been one-of-a-kind and unforgettable. Thank you FIT, Polyvore and CoverGirl! xx
