How to work when your tired

Hey everyone!

So I don’t know about your but there are already some days where I am to tired to accomplish anything. I work three jobs and take 8 classes, it is a lot but it can be done with a few easy tips

Make a list of things you want to accomplish. Make sure you have a clear goal of what you want to do with your day. Regardless if its go to work, make a snack, go to the gym, do one blog post , whatever it is have a set plan to get it all done.

Drink a lot of water. Most people don’t drink that much water when they are tired they end up drinking coffee, which will wake you up for a little but then you will crash and feel worse then before. When you drink water it helps hydrate you leaving you more energized.

Get Rid of distractions. Turn your phone off for an hour or two, don’t go on Facebook, and don’t do my worst habit of watching Netflix while trying to get work done. Go to Starbucks or the library somewhere with limited distractions.

Go to the gym, or just move around. When you start to move around it helps increase your energy. When your sitting in the same spot for to long it makes you sleepy leaving you with even less energy then before. Try to walk around for 5 minutes every 45 minutes it will make a huge difference.

Lastly I know its hard to do but try to get enough sleep at night an odd number of hours of sleep is better then even. So its better to take a snap for 3 hours instead of 2. To sleep 7 hours instead of 8. You tend to be in a deeper slumber in even numbers( I know which is weird). I know I have been extremely tired lately and all of these things have helped increase my productiveness.

New Semester Butterflies

The new semester can be TERRIFYING!  Regardless of what year or semester you are in, the start of something new is absolutely daunting.  As a junior entering my 5th semester this Monday, I am filled with anxiety.  The idea of starting over again with new professors, new coursework, and higher expectations isn’t something that I easily cope with.  The anticipation is the scariest part, I’ve come to realize.  Even though I’ve had this realization, the same way of nervousness hits me 2 times a year.  You may be wondering, “Why is she telling us this?”  I’m telling you to prove to you that you are not alone.  At 20 years old, an upperclassman, a commuter student, a junior, and a BFA student, I still get scared.  If you are a new student, perspective student, or transfer student, please know that you’re not the only one!

I find comfort in talking to others about what I’m going through.  Whether it’s calling my mom 10000 times a day or texting my friends to see how they’re doing, surrounding yourself with loved ones, even if it is over the phone, can help you find peace.  If you need to speak to someone professionally, the FIT Counseling Center is a great resource as well.   Discover your happy place, whether it is going to the gym, going out to eat, or watching Netflix on the couch.  Find a positive task that blocks the noise and nerves for the first few weeks of the semester.  Just remember that everyone is typically feeling what you are feeling.  You are never alone at FIT!

New Semester, New Opportunities

With the start of the new year, everyone is pushing the idea of resolutions and making overall change in your life.  Thankfully for you as a student, you have 2 ways that you can start over.  It is a brand new year and a brand new semester.  If this previous semester was not your greatest, evaluate what you could have done differently.  From there, write down goals that you have for yourself and think about the steps that you need to take to get yourself there.

We can get so caught up in the city and continuously moving and pushing ourselves and not realizing where the time went.  When we stop to evaluate how we ar physically and emotionally and make changes to improve ourselves, that is when we see results.  If you surrounded yourself with negative people and energy this past semester, focus on yourself and your success and break away from anyone that is holding you back.  If you are interested in an internship or job that may be “out of your league,” apply for it anyways.  You never know where and when opportunities reveal themselves, but take advantage of your time here in New York.  Make this semester the semester that you hoped it would be, whether it’s your first semester, or your last.  Best of luck!

2016 Goals

Hey everyone,

So as the holidays are quickly leaving us already the new year approaches us. This year I decided its a year about me , I am going to travel, I am going to work harder then ever at my job, I am going to get straight A’s , oh and did I mention travel?! So far I have planned/ in the process of planning 5 trips I have been saving for this forever and I simply cant wait.

My first trip in January is Killington Vermont.

killington-grand-resortBesides loving to snow board and ski I was also born not to far from here and love visiting. I have family there and even though I have lived in New Jersey longer then I did there it will always feel like home when I return. I will be venturing on a three day ski trip with friends while staying in a hotel right on the mountain.

Then in February… its a girls trip to…. NEW ORLEANS !!

untitledMy two best friends and I are venturing our way to Mardi Gras the day after that is. Mardi Gras never seems to die down here and its ten times cheaper if you leave the day after. So we are staying for two days to immerse ourselves in rich new Orleans culture.

Then for my 22 birthday in June we are going to…. you guessed it, VEGAS

The Strip at night, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America - getty creative

I have always wanted to go here not just to gamble but to see all the attractions and different architecture that you cant find anywhere else.

Lastly I am planning a cruise with a bunch of my friends for graduation, even though I graduate in December everyone will be graduating next semester. ( Man time flies) So we decided to have one last trip before we all go off to our real jobs and cant take off time for a while.

2016 is going to be such an amazing year , and this is only the beginning of it!

What are your plans?

Why FIT?

With finals and stress, you often think “why do I do this to myself,” or “why did I pick this school.”  The anxiety of finals can put a lot of strain on our minds and thoughts and it’s very easy to give up.  That is why I’m taking the time to reflect on why I chose FIT in the first place.

  • It is one of the most prestigious schools in the world
  • The professors at FIT have to work in the industry before teaching, therefore having real world experiences and connections to help students like you
  • The campus takes up a single block and doesn’t require travel time to get from class to class or building to building
  • There are high expectations of the school and the students that graduate
  • FIT is located in the greatest city in the world that is filled with endless opportunities
  • FIT is more affordable than any of the competitor schools located in New York City
  • FIT’s class sizes are small and can provide me with one on one attention from my professors
  • FIT will provide me with an education to succeed

Why did you pick FIT?
