Free Events in NYC this December

Hey everyone!

I do not know about you but getting closer to the holidays I do not have a lot of extra money to spare so I am always looking for free events. I recently came across a few that I know everyone really enjoys and some that are brand new.

The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park –Midtown West – Until January 3, 2016

Francis Bacon: Late Paintings – Gagosian Gallery, Lenox Hill Until December 12, 2015

On view are paintings produced by Bacon during the last 20 years of his life. Bacon was known for his screaming popes and writhing figures, but his late-career paintings are somewhat more refined, with visceral brushwork giving way to spray paint, and brighter colors supplanting dark tones.

Rockafeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony – December 2, 2015 – Midtown West

Proceedings start at 7:00pm, but you will want to get there as early as you can to secure a spot. The actual lighting takes place at the end of the program; most of the two-hour event is devoted to celebrity performances.

Target First Saturday – Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park – Saturday December 5, 2015

The revered Brooklyn institution stays open late and waives admission on the first Saturday of every month. Attendees can take in performances and lectures, go on guided tours or sip wine between gallery browsing

Medium of Desire: An international Anthology of Photography and Video- Soho, December 17, 2015 – March 16, 2016

Fourteen artists from nine countries bridges cultural differences with the unifying theme of desire.



Online Classes Vs. Actual Class

Hey everyone,


So recently I have come to a time in my FIT career where I am given the opportunity to work full time while I am finishing up my last few semesters. Being an ITM major I am given the opportunity to take majority of my classes online. Since I live in New Jersey and I waste about 10 hours a week back and forth commuting I thought it might be a great idea to only take online classes next semester.

So have taken a lot of online classes at school before I know what to expect but the question is do you? When choosing to take an online class you need to ask yourself a few questions:

  • Are you able to push yourself to do work when not in a physical classroom?
  • Do you learn better in groups or alone?
  • Even though you take an online class do you have enough time to devote to doing so, online classes tend to take the same amount of time if not more.
  • Are you able to self motivate?

Before fully committing to a fully online schedule I do suggest you take a class here or there to see if it is for you. I personally love them especially because I can work at my own pace and I often work ahead. So next semester will you be interested in taking an online class?


College Investments

When entering your freshman year, you all of a sudden feel like a 5 year old child again, diligently following the rules and being paranoid that you’re going to get in trouble.  You also feel like you need to buy EVERYTHING JUST IN CASE.  But I’m here to help you swallow your nervousness and inform you about what you should invest time and money in so that you can succeed!


  • A sturdy umbrella.  You may think that the rain won’t be that bad or you can just rush to where you’re going or stand under scaffolding.  I’m warning you now…the rain will come and your $6 umbrella with polka dots from Target will not save you from the downpours.  Get an umbrella that truly locks into place and go Mary Poppins on you with one gust of wind.
  • Shoes.  I cannot stress this enough.  You don’t think you’re going to walk that much, but you do.  You’re going to want a pair of shoes for each type of weather and ones that are comfortable!  Rain boots may not be the most fashionable, but they will keep you dry during the rainy and snowy months.
  • Socks.  While this may sound silly, thick and warm socks are a beautiful gift.  When winter rolls around and you’re waiting to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree light up, you can thank Grandma for those knitted wool socks from 2012.
  • A locker.  If you are a commuter student and going home for lunch in between classes seems daunting or impossible, get a locker!  You can store your textbooks, personal items, and school supplies in there year round.  Nothing is worse than forgetting something at home or wishing that you had somewhere to put something in a rush.
  • Portable Charger.  I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been running low on my phone battery and needed to charge it.  While most people carry their cords with them everywhere, a portable charger is handy when you don’t have a plug, on the go, or don’t want to bug someone to use theirs.


  • Computer Software.  If you are living in the dorms your freshman year, I highly recommend waiting to purchase all of the hefty software used for editing and designing until the library isn’t easily accessible to you.  The library has amazing hours during the week and there is a 24 hour computer lab available as well.  Every computer at FIT has the necessary software used in your classes.  Save yourself the Creative Cloud debt and wait.
  • Textbooks & School Supplies.  DO NOT…I repeat…DO NOT buy your textbooks before classes start unless your professor has told you otherwise.  Half of the textbooks and “required” supplies, I have NEVER used.  I could’ve saved so much money if I had just purchased the items when I needed it.
  • EVERYTHING.  Many stores whether they advertise it or not have student discounts.  Just ask the cashier if they do and a lot of the time, you’ll get very lucky!  Who says being a student doesn’t have its perks?

Midterms are approaching us…

Hey everyone,

It feels almost as if school just started and we just began learning, but that is far from the case. We are already at midterms , and large projects due, papers, ect. Before you know it school will be coming to an end once again and we will be another semester closer to graduating. College fly’s by especially when your stressed out from the amount of work all due at once. So I have some tips that will make it a little easier to calm down.

  1. Check out “Beats for studying” radio on Pandora

pandora-radioI actually just found it today while I was trying to study on the train. I hate studying on the train due to all the noise so I try and drown it out with music which sometimes distracts me. (I will start signing along in my head and what not) So i decided to look into the genre section on Pandora and they have a whole studying section. “Beats for studying” is actually all the popular songs out right now just made in to soothing classical songs. It is amazing and I personally cant stop listening to it.

2.Exercise untitled

As crazy as it sounds exercising can really help ease your mind and body. I know there is little time in the day for it around these times, but even if its just ten minutes I promise you will feel better instantly!

3. Get some Fresh Air


Take a walk around the block or just sit outside for five minutes

4.Be Kind to yourself


Make sure to remind yourself how much of a great job your doing just being you! Stressful times will pass soon enough and you will be back to your self.

Remember FIT has so many resources if you need them. Such as the councilors and the tutoring center , don’t ever be afraid to reach out to someone. Good Luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!

I recently won a free month membership to the UFC gym down in Soho!  I am incredibly excited to try out all of the different classes that are available!  I’m here to tell you all about the perks about having a membership at UFC Soho!  (This is my honest opinion!)

  • Don’t like group fitness classes?  UFC still has you covered with a fully equipped gym and trainers ready to help you one on one.
  • It’s a 24 HOUR GYM Monday-Friday and 8 am – 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Your gym time on your own time!
  • UFC Soho is fully furnished with a locker room and showers, but be sure to bring your own lock or purchase one at the front desk.
  • Want to rep UFC Soho from head to toe?  They have a shop at the front desk with products ranging from wraps and gloves to water bottles and tshirts!
  • Everyone is incredibly friendly, despite the UFC stereotypes.  Everyone is down to earth and happy to help you!
