Campus Follow-Up: Goodbye Stress

Hey Guys,

You may have read one of my recent posts about easy ways to maintain your stress levels during the semester. There are ways to do execute this right on campus as well! Yesterday, brought by FIT’s Health Services and the Department of Athletics and RecreationCalm City Meditation Station came to campus. What is Meditation Station? This RV houses a mobile mediation station where students can take 10 minute restoration breaks. Here, quick mediation sessions are provided via audio-guide for the perfect refresher between classes. Up to nine people can participate in a session at once!

This station is essential as finals are just around the corner. Calm City will arrive back to FIT on December 5th and December 12th. Too packed this semester to spare ten minutes? No worries! In addition to those dates, this station will return to campus five more times during the spring semester. Trucks are no longer providing just food- check out Calm City Mediation Station if you have the time!

Did you know that FIT has its own Mediation Space? Located on the 7th Floor of the Dubinsky Building (A-746), students have the opportunity to unwind anytime Monday-Friday from the hours of 9am-6pm. This is the ideal space to individually take a few minutes to find peace during a busy day. As the center describes, “students from all backgrounds and cultures are invited to meditate, pray, reflect, or simply to take time to be still.”

Whenever you have the opportunity, always take time for self care. What are some ways you take time to unwind during a hectic day?

Well wishes,

Goodbye Stress

Hello Everyone,

With midterm season almost at a finish (thank goodness), it is never too soon to get a head start preparing for finals. There are simple steps you can take to reduce stress and keep calm this finals season.

Meditate-
Always give yourself room to breathe. It is important to set aside time for yourself to relax and wind down. Mediation can mean literally practicing breathing exercises, or simply allowing downtime to center your mind and body. There are even apps that help schedule a few minute long meditation exercises into your day. It is a simple way to stay calm, cool, and collected.

Time Manage-
Set up a calendar with your due dates for assignments and exams. Give yourself time to chip away at your work week by week. The less pressure you’re under, the more successfully you can perform! Beat procrastination before it can even become an issue.

Communicate-
If you are struggling, whether inside or outside of school, never be afraid to reach out. FIT has free Counseling Services for any full-time student who has personal or academic concerns. Communication is important, especial during high-stress situations. No problem is too big to too small to reach out.

Health is Wealth-
Being conscious of what you put into your body can make you feel better in the long run; fuel your body on healthy, clean food whenever you have the opportunity. Even spending an hour in the gym is a great stress relief to let you mind unwind. The better you are to your body, the better you will feel mentally! However… there is nothing wrong with treating yourself every so often . Which brings me to…

Treat Your Self!-
Every now and then, you deserve to treat yourself. Take an hour or two and watch that Netflix movie you haven’t gotten to watch yet. Meet up with friends for dinner. Have a cookie. You deserve to enjoy the simple pleasures of life!

I hope these tips help decrease stress as final season approaches in the near future. Never forget to take care of YOU.

Best,
Annmarie

A Message to the Stressed

stress3

Yes, the first week can be very overwhelming. Between keeping up with first-week tasks and assignments, buying textbooks and finishing up homework, it is easy to find yourself in a stressful situation. On the other hand, this adjustment period is only temporary until you get into the swing of things. It important to remember that all of your hard work will pay off in the end, and most importantly, why you’re here.

You are officially attending one of the top 10 fashion schools globally! That is a huge accomplishment in itself. Whether you are business or design, you are going to learn a wealth of information in two semesters that you will carry with you forever. This is the turning point of your education. You are finally going to school for what you want to make a career out of and that is an amazing thing. There are rough patches along the way, but pretty soon the things you are struggling with will come naturally to you.

Always remember to keep your head up through stressful situations and that hard work truly pays off. Never give up and show them who is boss!
