Starting in November, FIT was working in conjunction with the nonprofit New York Cares on its annual Coat Drive leading up to the new year. The organization’s city-wide effort aims to collect 125,000 coats each year and distribute them to New Yorkers who need them most in the colder months. The Coat Drive has been running for 27 years, having collected and distributed 1.7 million winter coats to date. Boxes were placed in all building lobbies where members of the community could drop off donations.

The Department of Public Safety partnered with New York Cares to initiate FIT’s first-ever coat drive to help homeless New Yorkers. The college’s drive was from November 20th to December 20th. The department is proud to report that a total of 104 coats were donated to the New York Cares distribution center on behalf of FIT.
