FIT Open House FAQ

faq

Hello everyone,

Thank you to all students and families who attended FIT Open House this past weekend. On behalf of the Admissions team, we hope that this experience gave you great insight and a glimpse of your potential home for the next four years. If you were not able to make it, no worries! As a student representative on the Life at FIT student panel, I have outlined the top 3 frequently asked questions from both parents and students:

1. What made you choose FIT?

As the first of my two younger sisters to attend college for the first time, I like to jokingly consider myself as the “test child.” I applied to a total of 20 schools with the intention on focusing on business to eventually pursuing my passion in beauty. After being accepted to 19 of those schools and sending a housing deposit to Penn State, I received my admissions letter from FIT and everything changed. I knew being in the heart of the business capital with access to FIT industry events, networking opportunities, internships, and attending a school with unmatched programs is where I wanted to be. I now have my associates in Advertising/Marketing Communications and am currently working towards my bachelors in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing.

2. How to Get Involved?

  • Clubs: There are 50+ clubs on campus that cater to student’s majors and personal interests. Plan to attend the club fair that will take place a couple of weeks into school. This is an easy way to meet new people with shared interests. You can even create your own club too!
  •  Publications: WFIT (TV Broadcast/Radio), W27 (Newspaper) and Blush Magazine (Beauty and Fashion Magazine) all offer an insightful platform to share your voice with the FIT community regarding topics related to FIT, social issues, lifestyle etc.
  •  The Student Volunteer Community Service (SVCS): This service, which is offered through the Department of Student Life, provides students with volunteer opportunities at Fashion Week, community events, etc. This is ideal to gain industry experience and to make a difference in your community.
  •  Leadership: Become part of the student Government Association, Orientation Leader or Leadership Ambassador! You can also build leadership skills at Leadership Weekend or attend the Leadership Workshop Series to learn how to effectively communicate as a leader. Participating in Impact Day by giving back to local organizations in NYC is a great way to represent FIT and to learn and grow as a leader on campus as well. For more information, click here.

3. How safe is FIT?

If I’m completely honest, I cant even get into my own dorm or class building without my ID on me at all times. FIT ranks high as one of the most safest schools in the country. With 27th and 7th blocked off from public traffic Monday-Friday and 24/7 security in and outside the buildings, I’ve never felt more secure. Public Safety does a really good job of making sure everything at FIT is the way it is supposed to be. In the event someone needs to call for help, there are always the blue emergency buttons on the side of the buildings as well.

Feel free to reach out with any other questions!
