If you are currently a student at FIT, you may be in severe panic mode. It’s about 2 weeks until spring break which only means one thing…midterms. The beautiful, yet horrifying time of the semester where we all lose sleep and our patience. If you are reading this 2 weeks before spring break, then you are still able to properly plan! Midterms don’t have to be a week of craziness and all-nighters if you make a proper schedule in advanced! Here are some of my tips to surviving midterms:
- Look at a calendar. While this may seem ridiculous, you’d be surprised at how little or how much you know your schedule and when your professor is giving you a midterm. If you are an art and design student, you have a project due on a certain day or an exam on the other. Some professors may offer their midterm after break, but you’ll never be able to relieve any stress until you look at a calendar and write everything down!
- Establish a schedule. Once you have written everything out, focus on the midterm that comes first and then the one that you’re most nervous about. From there, make a study or work schedule to break apart the materials you’ve learned in the past 6 weeks. Don’t try to cram a semester’s worth of material in a few days. If you break up your studying and material days, it’ll make everything go much smoother.
- Plan that reward. Everything must come to an end, which means that you will SURVIVE midterms! Decide on a special treat that you’ve been wanting to treat yourself to the entire semester. Whether you’re going to get a pedicure or the insane milkshakes from Black Tap, you deserve that indulgence!
- Breathe.
Best of luck!
