Staying Focused

Once winter break hits, I know that all we want to do is sit around and watch endless hours of Friends, The Mindy Project, and Orange is the New Black.  While these endless hours are much deserved, the second the spring semester rolls around, it only seems harder and harder to get back into the swing of things.  Here are some of my tips that I’m going to follow this break so that I don’t fall into a slump:

  1. Try to read 3 new books.  With our winter break being exceptionally long (not complaining), there is enough time to pick up some of the best sellers of the season.  Whether that means sitting in your local bookstore for a few hours every now and again or checking books out from your local library, it’ll feel good to keep your wheels turning.
  2. Write down your goals.  With all the high pressure of setting goals for the new year, you can easily say them outloud or think about them, but seeing your own goals in your handwriting makes all the difference.  Set long terms goals, seasonal goals, and semester goals.  Be realistic, but also push yourself outside of your comfort zone.
  3. Pursue a different subject.  While this can easily be applied to #1, learn about subjects that you are interested in outside of your major.  It is easy to get caught up in the craziness of school, but learning outside of your major can help you understand your relevant subject more easily or look at it from a different, newfound perspective.

You’ll be good to go once January rolls around!  Happy winter break!
