College Freshman

Although I am no longer a Freshman I have been there and conquered that year. So I thought I would give you all a few tips to help you get through it.

  1. DONT BUY TEXTBOOKS AT THE SCHOOL BOOKSTORE!

That was the biggest mistake I made, my first semester I probably spent over 500 dollars on books. ( which was totally not necessary) Most of your classes don’t even use the book the have on the syllabus, so before you go crazy buying them wait a week and see if you are going to use them. Until you get the book then you can go to the library and copy the pages that you need for the class. And ALWAYS remember Rent, or buy used don’t ever spend 200 dollars on a textbook that you will never use again.

2. DO go to school events

And get involved as much as possible, even though FIT isn’t the typical college with football games and college avenue they have so many exciting and interesting things to get involved in.

3. Don’t think just getting a degree will get you a job

Experience, Experience, Experience! Internships and involving yourself in the business world is what will get you a job. Don’t get me wrong your degree does get you a job but having your degree and a ton of experience will make you more valuable then the person that doesn’t.

4. DO leave campus once in a while

Were in the heart of NYC, although I don’t recommend going alone when your new to the area, explore ! take a citi bike somewhere, go to museums , shows, anything, the city is your oyster.

5.Do make friends with someone older then you

They will have the best advice and when you feel like no one understands and you cant move forward because your so stressed out. They will be there to talk to you because  they have been there and made it through.

Goodluck this semester everyone!
