After months of early morning commutes, group projects, homemade flashcards, frequent visits to the Tutoring Center, and studying for exams, it’s a pleasure to look down at my planner with no deadlines in sight.

It feels so good to

Winter Break is an opportunity to relax, recharge, and prepare for making your next moves your best moves. Oftentimes, students spend much of the break in a whirlwind of countless hours of social media, oversleeping, and “hanging out”.  Many of us have honest intentions to seek out internships, read, or finally schedule that dentist appointment, but before we know it winter break is over and all we have to show for it is a few movie ticket stubs and a fridge full of doggy bags from our favorite affordable restaurants.  It’s important to find a balance during the recess and put some of that free time to smart use.

Here’s how:

1. Make a list of goals for the upcoming semester

Everyone needs a game plan. Create an outline for your goals.  What needs to be done? How are you going to do it? With everything on the table, it’ll be easier to tackle the challenges.

2. Submit your SUNY application

The Fall 2014 application deadline has been extended to January 6, 2014.  Feel free to get the ball rolling.

3.  Visit the schools that interest you

Brochures and websites have their limits.  There’s nothing like walking the halls of your dream school.  Take a campus tour and ask the student tour guide the questions you really want to know.

4. Get dressed everyday

This may sound like a no-brainer but I’m sure many of you have seen the day come and go while wearing last night’s jammies.  Make it your business to shower and dress each morning. Seize the day!

5. Read

Stay sharp. Read a newspaper or grab a book. You’ll be aware of the world around you, engage your imagination, and be equipped for intelligent conversation. How awesome is that?

Making It Count,

Jaiah
